Mark T. Smith, MD

Co-Founder and Managing Physician

Dr. Smith attended Ohio State University College of Medicine (Columbus) where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine in June 1992.  He did his Residency and Fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta Georgia.  Dr. Smith joined Nephrology Associates in May 2000.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.  Dr. Smith has held several leadership positions in the community including: Section Chief, Medical Staff President, Memberships and Chair Positions on various Committees in the Hospital and in the Community. Dr. Smith was certified as a Principal Investigator in 2007 has continually maintained this certification. He also maintains his Georgia and South Carolina Licensure. Dr. Smith has also authored several journal articles and abstracts related to his research interests. He resides in the CSRA with his wife and children.  

Don E. Williamson, MD

Dr. Williamson attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia for his undergraduate classes with a major in Chemistry.  He attended the Medical College of Georgia where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1988 and continued with his Internship and Residency at MCG.  He completed his Fellowship at Medical College of Georgia in 1993.  Dr. Williamson joined Nephrology Associates in July 1993.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He served as Chief of Nephrology at University Hospital from 1996 to 2001 and Vice-President of the Executive Committee in 1998, 1999, and 2001. He served as a member of the Executive Council at University Hospital from 1998-2008.  He has state licenses in Georgia and South Carolina.  He resides in the CSRA with his wife and children.  His hobbies include scuba-diving, computers, woodworking, fishing and sailing.

 

Clay H. Wilson, MD

After graduating from The Citadel with a BS in Biology,  Dr. Clay Wilson matriculated into medical school at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Upon graduation ( and six years in Pathology), he entered into his Internship and Residency training in Internal Medicine at Wake Forest University, Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Following his Internal Medicine training, he successfully completed his Nephrology Fellowship at Bowman Gray in 1997. He is board certified in Nephrology. He has state licenses in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.  He resides in the CSRA with his wife and 4 grown children living nearby. Dr. Wilson joined Nephrology associates in 1997.

Barton C. Brezina, MD

Dr. Brezina is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois where he earned a BS in Chemistry. He attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia where he obtained his Doctorate of Medicine in May 1998. He did his Internship and Residency at Keesler US Air Force Medical Center in Mississippi. He did his Nephrology Fellowship at Wilford Hull Medical Center, Lackland AFB.  Dr. Brezina joined Nephrology Associates in August 2007.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.  He resides in the CSRA with his wife and 5 children.  His hobbies include gardening and watching college football.

 

Harold D. Hubert, III, MD

Dr. Hubert hails from Athens, Georgia and remains an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. While attending the University of Georgia he worked as a Student Athletic Trainer with both the baseball and football teams including two years as the Head Student Athletic Trainer. After graduating from St. Georges University School of Medicine he completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. He then completed his Fellowship in Nephrology at the Medical College of Georgia before joining Nephrology Associates in 2010. He is licensed in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology in both Georgia and South Carolina. He resides in the CSRA with his wife Melissa and their four children Daniel, Madison, Carater and Reagan. In addition to following all things UGA, Dr. Hubert has an interest in US Presidential history.

 

Devesh R. Patel, MD

Dr. Patel attended Ross University of Dominica, West Indies where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine in February 2000.  He did his Internship, Residency and Fellowship in Nephrology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia.  Dr. Patel joined Nephrology Associates in November 2010. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.  Dr. Patel received his certification in Interventional Nephrology through the  ASDIN in 2016

Syed Nabil Babar, MD

Dr. Syed N. Babar moved to the Augusta area in 2012 following his Fellowship in Interventional Nephrology in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended medical school at Deccan College of Medical Science. He did his Internship and Residency at Jersey Shore Medical Center in New Jersey.  Dr. Babar joined Nephrology Associates in September 2012. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.  Dr. Babar has been certified in Interventional Nephrology since fall 2012 through the ASDIN.  He is a certified specialist in clinical hypertension by the American Society of Hypertension, obtained in 2013.
